Generally speaking, CNC machining usually refers to computer numerical control precision machining, CNC machining lathes, CNC machining milling machines, CNC machining boring and milling machines, etc. As one of the most common manufacturing methods for making parts, CNC machining offers advantages over many traditional manufacturing methods in terms of speed, productivity, and precision.

When selecting the right material for CNC machining, a number of factors should be considered, including machinability, strength, corrosion resistance, cost, weight, and appearance, to name a few. Here are some common CNC machining materials.

6061 aluminum alloy

6061 aluminum has good formability, excellent weldability, and machinability, and at the same time, it has medium strength and can maintain good workability after annealing.

May be more expensive than other metals and perform poorly when exposed to salt water or other chemicals.

Widely used in various industries.

1. Aerospace: aircraft skin, fuselage frame, inner panel, rotor, propeller, fuel tank, landing gear, etc.

2. Transportation: subway cars, accessories, doors, windows, tracks, car panels, wheels, engine parts, etc.

3. Construction field: making doors and windows, aluminum panels, etc.

4. Electronic appliances: used in various electrical components, refrigerators, air conditioners, cables, and other fields.

5. Packaging: used for packaging beverages, food, cosmetics, medicines, cigarettes, industrial products, etc.

7075 aluminum alloy

7075 aluminum alloy is a cold-treated forged alloy with high strength, compact structure, and strong corrosion resistance, which is the best for aviation and marine plates.

1. The price is more expensive.

2. Unlike 6061, AL7075 has high strength, making it difficult to bend into difficult and complex shapes, and it is not easy to bend directly.

The main uses are fixtures, mold processing, mechanical equipment, and aerospace, and are suitable for manufacturing aircraft structures or other high-stress structures with high strength requirements and strong corrosion resistance.

Brass and Copper

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Brass composed of copper and zinc is called ordinary brass, and if it is a variety of alloys composed of two or more elements, it is called special brass. Brass has strong wear resistance. Brass is often used to make valves, water pipes, connecting pipes for internal and external air conditioners, and radiators.

Red copper:

Red copper is industrial pure copper. It has good electrical and thermal conductivity, excellent plasticity, and is easy to be processed by hot and cold pressing. It is widely used in the manufacture of wires, cables, brushes, electric sparks, and other products that require good electrical conductivity.

304 stainless steel

304 stainless steel is a common material in stainless steel, with a high-temperature resistance of 800 ℃, and has the characteristics of good processing performance and high toughness. 304 is very tough, non-magnetic, easy to machine, and generally resistant to corrosion.

303 usually contains a small amount of sulfur, is easy to cut, and is usually used for round bar stock, while 304 is mainly used for sheet, plate and flat stock. SUS303 is commonly used in nuts, bolts, shafts and gears.

SUS316 is generally considered marine-grade stainless steel, tough and easy to weld, and very resistant to corrosion. Ideal for construction, marine fittings, industrial plumbing, and automotive applications.

Carbon structural steel

The carbon content of Q235 is moderate, the comprehensive performance is good, and the strength, plasticity, and welding properties are well matched, and it is the most widely used.

Steel 45/1045:

45# is the grade of steel, which is a high-quality carbon structural steel. The corresponding American standard is 1045, the Japanese standard is S45C, and the German standard is C45. It is characterized by higher strength and deformation resistance than ordinary A3 steel. 45# steel has good processing performance and is easy to cut.

The above introduces several materials that we commonly use for CNC machining. In actual production, we still have to make comprehensive selections and considerations according to the actual use environment and use needs.
